Beldam Burgmann to conduct Fugitive Emissions survey

Midlands based Beldam Burgmann; the UK's only genuine nationwide packing and static seals specialist, is to approach its clients and other key players across a number of relevant industries to gauge their views and assess their understanding of the imminent Europe-wide changes in fugitive emission legislation.

The nationwide survey will first ask those taking part whether they are aware of the legislation regarding fugitive emissions reduction (IPPC 96/61/EU) and the compliance deadline of October 2007 for all existing UK plants.

Once that has been established, more questions will be posed, aimed at helping businesses to focus on how much product and money is currently being wasted as a result of excessive fugitive emissions and how they might look to remedy their own problems ahead of the all important compliance deadline.

As Beldam Burgmann managing director, Peter Childs, explains, even though awareness of the imminent changes is growing, far too many organisations are carrying on in ignorance and need to take note.   He comments:   "These changes will be enormous and will have far-reaching implications for companies operating across numerous sectors.   The worrying thing at the moment is that so few organisations seem to be gearing up for the changes, while Germany in particular, is ahead of the UK in preparing for th is legislation."

" From chemical and petro-chemical to power generation and pharmaceutical industries every pertinent organisation will have to ensure that the concept of 'Best Available Technique' (BAT) is adopted in many areas of their operation.

"What we're tying to do with this survey, is to first establish an idea of the level of understanding of what's literally just around the corner for everyone and then help make people aware of what they need to do in readiness for October 2007."

The survey is due to be conducted in October, with the results set to be published a month later.   Anyone wishing to take part in the survey should contact Peter Childs on 01543 459595 or alternatively by email at peter.childs@beldamburgmann.com .
